Moodle

Moodle is the learning platform of the EH Ludwigsburg. Teachers at the EH use it to enable flexible preparation and follow-up as well as the implementation of courses by providing various materials and activities. The e-portfolio Mahara and the web conferencing system BigBlueButton are integrated in Moodle.

Students have the opportunity to complete an e-learning exercise on how to use Moodle. Various Moodle activities and their operation are included, introducing the operation and use of Moodle in everyday student life. References to step-by-step PDF and video tutorials round out this offering. Check it out!

For the first steps with Moodle there is also an explanatory tutorial here:

  • Basic tutorial (login, settings, course enrollment, profile, messages).

If you have any questions, you can check the Moodle FAQ for students here to see if your question has already been answered:

  • I would like to register for a course. Do I have to do this in Moodle or in HISinOne? All courses are booked via the campus management system HISinOne. There you can select the appropriate courses within the enrollment period using the module planner. If you are admitted to the course, you can attend it. Enrollment in Moodle courses is independent of this. Some teachers use Moodle to support the content of their courses. In that case, you will receive an enrollment key from the instructor to gain access to the course.
  • How do I find the right Moodle course? Log in to Moodle. Select "Course Overview / Teaching" on the top right of the dashboard. There the Moodle courses are sorted alphabetically by the last name of the teacher. Alternatively, use the "Search courses" function there.
  • How can I enroll in a Moodle course? Usually you will receive an enrollment key from your teacher. With this key you can enroll yourself in the corresponding course.

For teachers there is a collection of instructions that can help you in your work with Moodle:

If you have any questions, you can check here in the Moodle FAQ for teachers to see if your question has already been answered:

  • What is the difference between Moodle and HISinOne? HISinOne is the university's campus management system, which is used to administer studies. This is where, for example, students apply, attend events and print out their enrollment certificate or grade account. As a teacher, you can use it to view the courses you are holding and, for example, print out lists of participants or send e-mails to all enrolled students. Instructions are available hereMoodle, on the other hand, is a digital learning platform. It offers you the possibility to enrich your classroom teaching with e-learning components or even to hold entire online units. For example, you can make materials (files, videos, further links) available on Moodle for students to use to prepare for or follow up on the course.
  • How do I create a course? If you are a teacher at EH but have never worked with Moodle before, contact the e-learning team to get your own course area for your teaching. Then you will also get the necessary rights to create courses yourself. If you already have a Moodle course area and the necessary rights, navigate on the start page to "Course overview / Teaching" and there to your own last name. There you will find the button "Create new course". Detailed instructions can be found here in section 3. Please be sure to follow the uniform scheme for course naming.
  • How do I assign a password / enrollment key for my Moodle course and how can I change it? To make your course accessible only to students from your course, you can assign a password, a so-called enrollment key. You can read how to assign and change the enrollment key in this guide in section 4.
  • How do I delete a Moodle course? The final deletion of Moodle courses is only possible through support. To do so, contact the EH e-learning team. Courses that you currently do not need but do not want to delete forever can be moved to your archive yourself. You will find a description of how to do this in the Basic instructions in section 3.4.
  • How do students get into my Moodle course? Usually you assign an enrollment key for your Moodle course, which you give to students at the beginning of the semester. Students then use it to enroll themselves in the course.
  • How do I hide a course / parts of my course from the participants? If you want to keep your course hidden for preparation purposes, for example, click on the cogwheel in the upper right corner of your course and then on "Settings". There you can select the option "Hide" under "Course visibility". The course will then appear in your view with a gray background, and students will no longer see it at all. Within a course, you can also hide only individual topics, documents or activities. To do this, click on the cogwheel in the upper right corner and activate the editing function in the course. Then select "Edit" at the desired location. There you will find the option "Hide" or "Hide topic", represented by a gray symbol of an eye.
  • Where is the list of participants in my course? Instructors in a Moodle course can view a list of all enrolled participants. Within a course you will find "Participants" as the second topmost field in the left menu column. There you can find the overview. (If you want a general list of participants of your course, you can get it in HISinOne).
  • Do I get support for Moodle as a teacher at the EH? Yes! You can contact the EH e-learning team with any questions or requests. We can also arrange a consultation appointment if you intend to actively integrate Moodle into your teaching. You also have the option of receiving student support from e-tutors. They will help you especially with the technical implementation of e-learning units. You can find information about e-tutoring and the other services of the e-learning team here.
