Do you enjoy working with people? Would you like to reflect on Christian faith and life with children, young people and adults? Or you would like to teach Protestant religion at school? Then you will find exactly what you are looking for here!

What makes this study program attractive for you

  • Many modules are "polyvalent", i.e. apply to both degrees "Religious Education" and "Social Work". In this way, you acquire two full Bachelor's degrees in 9 semesters.
  • Manageable groups: A cohort comprises a maximum of 30 students. A good community is formed here - you will feel comfortable in the group! You will receive intensive support and personal study guidance from teachers.
  • Practical insights are part of the study program: In the 2nd and 4th semesters there are extensive practical project modules, and from the 3rd semester you will observe and teach in religious education classes. The 5th semester is a practical semester.
  • If interested, the practical semester can be done abroad and an international additional certificate can be acquired.
  • Directly after the 9th semester, it is possible to be consecrated into the office of deacon of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. The Protestant University of Applied Sciences Ludwigsburg is the standard education for the diaconate of the regional church - only at the EH Ludwigsburg do you become a deacon directly after graduation.
  • To prepare you for the diaconate, the Karlshöher Diakonierverband offers an accompanying programme each semester.
  • Typical occupations: Youth Minister*, Religious Education Teacher* (grades 1-10), Parish Deacon*, and many more.
  • Prerequisites: Abitur or Fachhochschulreife, practical work of usually 1 year, 100 hours of volunteer experience, membership in the Protestant Church. Detailed information about the requirements can be found in the "Application" section on this page. If you do not (yet) meet all requirements exactly, please contact us!

There are two possible ways to become a deacon!

Two study program combinations lead to the diaconate of the Lutheran Church in Württemberg: In addition to Religious Education there is the study program Diaconal Studies in combination with (International) Social Work. Please note the information on the overview page about the diaconate study programs at the EH: Link
