This IP will give students as well as teachers the opportunity to exchange and to learn about a relatively new connection between social work and sustainability on a multilateral level and in a multidisciplinary context. Teachers and students go through a process of articulation of competencies including concrete realization levels (actions and skills), proficiency criteria and lines of progress.

Intercultural communication and intercultural relating

The first main competency is “intercultural communication and intercultural relating”. This means: The Social Worker can relate authentically to people living in an other country, in an other context and different cultures. This means that (s)he consciously considers the group dynamics and the interpersonal processes. The social worker is able to direct a relationship functionally and establish authentic contacts and set up partnerships with others.

The second competency: Is about your ability to learn from differences, to be open minded for the ideas of someone else and to integrate this in your professional behaviour.

The final goal of this IP is for you to become a better social worker. This IP has to end up inside of you: doing your job in a different way and stimulating your colleagues at home also do their job in such a way that Europe becomes a better place to live in!
