Course contents
The main focus of your studies will be the human being. How do individual lives and communities develop? How can life become more meaningful?
The first semesters will help you develop and extend your experiences and abilities.

Higher semesters will address more specific professional questions about parish social and welfare service, parish education, children and youth religious instruction, as well as adult training in Church institutions. In addition, a practical term and involvement in a supervised project will be part of the curriculum.

Integration of theory and practice:
Course structure
The full study course usually takes seven semesters. The fifth term is a practice semester. It leads to the Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Religious Education. Those who follow on with two further semesters can obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Social Work. Studying takes place in small groups and includes intensive support and personal supervison by experienced faculty members. As a University of Applied Sciences we aim to integrate theory and practice to give the broadest basis for your professional future.

Double your qualification
Are you interested to go further after five semesters? Do you want to extend and deepen your studies after you have obtained a B.A. degree in Religious Education?
You have now the possibility to acquire an additional B.A. degree in Social Work after completing two further semesters.
After eight semesters of study and one practice term you can be ordained as a Deacon at the regional Church of Württemberg. With this double qualification you can work for church institutions or parishes, as well as enter the civil service in state sponsored fields of social work.

We study, celebrate and live together - that is our slogan at the Protestant University University of Applied Sciences.
Besides academic studies, everyday life takes place in shared apartments at student hostels. There are possibilities for campus sports, parties, gatherings for special events and weekend outdoor activities such as climbing, kayaking, sailing and hiking. The BBK is a student pub that opens regularly during the week.
The Hochschulgemeinde (University Parish) invites everyone to a shared spiritual life. There are church services at the beginning and at the end of each semester. Prayer services are held every Wednesday. Additional discussion circles are organized around special themes.

Requirements
Do you have a desire to study Religious Education or become a pastoral counsellor?
Then you should continue to read on. You can be admitted in this protestant university if you fulfil the following conditions:
- University entrance qualification or its equivalent
- Proof of one year practical experience in a profession
- Proof of at least one year voluntary service in a parish, in a church social welfare institution, or in a church-supported youth program
- Membership to the Protestant Church
- If possible, not to be over thirty years of age

The academic degree
After six study semesters and one practice semester you will conclude your studies with a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Religious Education.
Those who conclude with B.A. degrees above average have an opportunity to follow on with a further three semester Master degree course. Upon graduation it could open up possibilities to enter higher civil service or qualify you for science and research leadership positions.
Student contributions
The seven semesters cost altogether 3500.- Euro. The sum can be paid in bi-annual rates. You find more details in the study fee section.
